New Site Features!
Here's a brief rundown of the new features that this site upgrade has given us:
- New Anti-Spam features. The new SpamX plugin designed by Tom Willet (sounds like the guy from the "We'll leave the light on for ya commercials) keeps our forums and comments from being spammed by robots. Since this is in place, I've re-enabled access for anonymous users to post comments.
- Story Archiving: It is now possible to move stories to an "archive" topic or have them deleted automatically at a given time.
- Clickable links in text postings: URLs in non-HTML postings are now recognized by Geeklog and displayed as clickable links. This means that even if you don't know any HTML, you can post an article or comment as text only and any URLs in your post will be automatically linked!
- Editable story IDs: The IDs of stories can now be changed (like the IDs of static pages) to provide more readable URLs (and further improve the chances of being picked up by seach engines, especially when used with URL rewriting).
- Autolinks are a new form of links that can be used in stories and comments. An autolink takes the form [name:id link text] where name is the tag name, id is the ID of an object the link should be pointing to, and link text is used as the text of the link. Example:
would be translated into About the email bug. For the built-in autotags, the link text is optional and Geeklog will use the title of the object (story / event / static page) if it is not given.[story:email-bug About the email bug]
Those are just a few of the great new features!
